Like many of you I went to the library to load up on books since I’m chilling at home for at least two weeks. My TBR completely changed and who knows how many of these I will actually get to, but here’s my plan:
1 Dune – Frank Herbert
Even though I’ve never read Dune I’m still so excited for the movie coming out later this year. I do want to read the book but also give myself enough time in between the two. I notice that if I watch an adaptation after I’ve read a book that I tend to be more judgemental of the movie.
2 Lock Every Door – Riley Sager
I thoroughly enjoyed both Final Girl and The Last Time I Lied. They’re both guilty pleasures for me and I hope to add Lock Every Door to that list before Sager’s next book, Home Before Dark comes out. Damn, Sager has been turning out a book a year. Wonder how long this will go for!
3 The Only Good Indians – Stephen Graham Jones
This one and Southern Book Club I’m on the waitlist when they arrive at the library, so it depends upon if the library is back open. This is for May so I’m crossing my fingers because this seems like a horror book that I would really enjoy. I’ve heard wonderful things about Jones’ other books (also on my TBR) and I hope to get my hands on this one.
4 The Priory of the Orange Tree – Samantha Shannon
It has been a long time since I’ve read a major fantasy epic and after the Game of Thrones ending I’ve felt the gap. Give me complicated ancient names and crazy political plotlines! I need and want it.
5 Satanic Panic: Pop-Cultural Paranoia in the 1980’s
A part of my ‘Cults/Extreme Religion’ reading is an overview on a dark mark on America’s recent past. Satanic Panic still exists today but the witch hunt was in full swing in the 80’s and early 90’s. This book is an anthology covering how this panic affected different sections of society and entertainment to the more serious damage it did and the lives it ruined.
6 The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires – Grady Hendrix
This one came at the right time! The Popsugar challenge has a prompt for ‘a Book about a Book Club’ and I was hitting a wall. Most of the books I just had zero interest in, and while I try to expand my horizons for the challenge I still want something that sparks some interest. (Or joy! ;D)
7 Stories of Your Life – Ted Chiang
8 Exhalation – Ted Chiang
Stories of Your Life has been on my TBR for a while, after I watched Arrival a few years back (love that movie so much). Not sure why I haven’t gotten to it (a line uttered frequently by booklovers) but now Chiang’s second round of short stories is out and I got it from the library not realizing this. There’s no rule that says I have to read them in order, but hell, I got the time so why not read back to back!

If you are interested in joining in on the fun go to That Artsy Girl to see upcoming prompts for Top Ten Tuesday!
The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires is certainly an interesting title.

Priory of the Orange Tree is such a favorite for so many people. I hope to pick it up soon.
Anyway, great list!

Thanks! The great reviews are one of reasons why I wanted to give this a try, because the length is a bit intimidating…

Yep, the length is definitely intimidating for me.

I’ve been staring at The Priory of the Orange Tree for a while now but it’s so HUGE. I feel like I’ll end up buying myself an ecopy simply for the sake of getting it read more easily?

Oh yes, the physical copy is massive. I think an e-version would help, the only thing is that the back has a timeline, glossary, and list of major characters. So it might be difficult going back and forth.

Hm.. I’m going to think about how to handle it then. Maybe keep my physical copy near should I need the timeline / glossary and such!

I have LOCK EVERY DOOR out from the library right now, too. Luckily, I have several more weeks to read it! SOUTHERN BOOK CLUB is on my list today as well. It just sounds fun. I hope we both enjoy it.
Happy TTT!

I almost got Priory of an Orange Tree this last weekend! I didn’t because I keep picking it up and putting it down. I’m not sure why the size intimidates me! I like big books. haha. I hope you get to it and love it!

I get it. I’ve also pass it by a few times due to the length. And I’m not gonna lie, the glossary/timeline/characters at the end is very intimidating.

Yeah, I’ve read the Game of Thrones books… I don’t know why I’m so freaked by it. haha

Yes! I’ve seen firsthand how harmful this panic can be and that was in the early ’00s, way after the its height.

I’ve been seeing The Priory of the Orange Tree on my timeline often. It looks intimidatingly large though when I see it in person hehe. I hope you enjoy it and all the others on your list! Happy reading 🙂

The Only Good Indians and The Southern Book Clubs Guide are definitely on my most-anticipated novels list! I’m incredibly excited to get my hands on both of them and get lost in those stories. Exhalation has been on my goodreads TBR for a while now and hopefully I read it soon-ish too because I’m totally in the mood for mindbending plots right now! c:

Sorry for the delay in response (sometimes wordpress isn’t the greatest with keeping up). I just read The Southern Book Club and loved it! Sadly The Only Good Indians just got pushed back by two months. Boooooo. lol
