Time to put together another TBR! Probably one of my Top Ten Tuesday prompts is the seasonal TBR list. Fall wasn’t so hot for me. I got 4/10 from September’s list. A couple got move to the end of this month. Still only six, which isn’t the worst I’ve done, but hoping to begin the new year strong.
Here’s my plans for the next few months:
1 Annihilation – Jeff Vandermeer
I really loved the movie adaptation and I know the book is really different, but I do want to compare the two. I’m interested to see what in the book spoke to Alex Garland (director/writer of the movie) since he was very selective of what he adapted.
2 The Book of Koli – M.R. Carey
I just discovered this one recently in my research of cli-fi books and this seems perfect. I’m trying to find books where nature really takes over. *Evil laugh*
3 Greenwood – Michael Christie
I really love genre hybrids. This one is multigenerational historical fiction that has a splash of sci-fi. One out of the five stories takes place in 2034 in one of the last remaining forests. My interest is high on this one and I’m so glad to finally get to it!
4 The Haunting of Hill House – Shirley Jackson
I actually read this one over a decade ago but I’ve been wanting to reread it since I saw the limited series a couple years back. I loved the Netflix show and I remember really enjoying the book.
5 Hell House – Richard Matheson
This pops up on many ‘scariest books’ lists and has been on my TBR for some time. I’m always suspicious about popular horror books, definitely hit or miss with me, but I love haunted houses so I’ll give this one a try.
6 The Little Stranger – Sarah Waters
I saw the movie adaptation last year and I thought it had some good bits but was missing something for me. I think it’s long enough after viewing the movie to give the book a try. There’s enough elements of the books that I found interesting to give it another chance.
7 Parable of the Sower – Octavia Butler
I love Kindred and Dawn so much and now I just want to read all of Butler’s books. Parable of the Sower seems very timely right now, especially since the novel takes place in 2025. Yeeeeaaaahhhh.
8 We Keep the Dead Close – Becky Cooper
I don’t get to read as much true crime as I would like to (usually leave that to podcasts), but this was one I really wanted to start the year with. It sounds like this book was also extremely well researched, which is very important to me with true crime books.
9 The Woman in Black – Susan Hill
I’m really hoping for all the gothic vibes with this one. Take me to the english countryside to another spooky haunted house. The description also says this is a ghost story by way of Jane Austen. We’ll see how much that holds up but I’m interested in finding out.

This year has been an AWFUL reading year for me. Fall was the first time this year I finished my TBR. I hope you get the chance to read all of these!

Thanks! I’m positive for this TBR since I don’t have much to do after Christmas.

I’m going to have to add “Haunted Houses” as one of my October themes. I love haunted house books, but for some reason I haven’t hit up on that one yet, and I’ve already decided to do creepy dolls next year. Great list!

The Haunting of Hill House has been hanging out on my TBR pile for years. I’ve read a lot of other Shirley Jackson work, but that one is still waiting on me. Hope you enjoy the re-read, and all the rest of these!
